In early October, we hosted our 3rd annual Tech Slam UK in partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation and for the first time with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. Throughout the week, our team of Hidden Genius Alumni Youth Educators exposed over 200 students with the support of program partners featuring local US-based nonprofits TEAM, Inc. and Oakland Natives Give Back, including UK-based Creative Hut Education, along with a host of collaborators.
Special thanks to our generous sponsors at Uber, Marqeta, United Airlines, Comcast NBCUniversal, Smartsheet, Autodesk, and Goldman Sachs.
“We are delighted to be working with The Hidden Genius Project again. It’s a good relationship we have with them, and they brought their Geniuses and GEMs from the Oakland Natives Give Back program to work with our young people to find out about different STEM activities. It is a really great opportunity for our young people who are already a part of our Chelsea Foundation project.” – Sam Mardle, Schools Education Manager, Chelsea FC
Through our mission-aligned partnership, we introduced over 200+ young people to exciting technical and non-technical career pathways through hands-on and culturally relevant programming.
CHELSEA FC FOUNDATION
To kick off our international programming, The Hidden Genius Project returned to Stamford Bridge for the third time to inspire and educate 120 young people through our innovative #TechSlamUK sports and technology tech exposure program.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR FOUNDATION
On October 12, The Hidden Genius Project partnered with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation to host our first Tech Slam UK activation for young people at Tottenham Stadium. Nearly 90 students from North London were exposed to sports career pathways and skills at this event.
In a world where opportunities in the technology sector abound, Tech Slam UK recognizes the potential that lies within young individuals, particularly those from communities of color. These events serve as a platform to inspire participants to explore exciting sports technology career pathways, both technical and non-technical, that are ripe with potential. Too often, young sports enthusiasts are steered away from their dreams due to unrealistic expectations, but Tech Slam UK aims to empower them to dream big and leverage their strengths to excel in sports technology-related fields.
“We were delighted to host this event at our stadium today, and we thank The Hidden Genius Project for bringing such a fantastic, groundbreaking initiative to our doorstep. It is a driving ethos of ours to encourage young people within our communities to broaden their horizons and expose them to the opportunities that exist around them.”
-Marc Leckie, CEO, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation
HISTORY OF TECH SLAM UK
Tech Slam originated through a partnership between The Hidden Genius Project and TEAM, Inc. in 2017. In October 2018, The Hidden Genius Project, Oakland Natives Give Back, and TEAM, Inc. joined forces to host the inaugural Tech Slam UK event at Stamford Bridge in partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation.
The following year in 2019, the team returned to London to host another Tech Slam UK activation and then continued to expose young people in Johannesburg to host inspiring workshops at Tech Slam South Africa in partnership with LEAP Science and Match Schools.
