The Hidden Genius Project, renowned for its exceptional work in training and mentoring youth of color, is gearing up to host its annual Tech Slam UK in collaboration with esteemed partners Chelsea FC Foundation, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, Autodesk, and TEAM, Inc. The Hidden Genius Project is an award-winning, trailblazing nonprofit organization committed to equipping Black boys and young men with the technological skills, entrepreneurship acumen, and leadership prowess needed to catalyze positive change in their lives and their communities.
Through innovative programs, mentorship, and hands-on experiences, they have been instrumental in fostering a new generation of leaders poised to make a lasting impact. During the week of October 7, Tech Slam UK returns for its fourth year, promising four extraordinary days of inspiration, learning, and empowerment:
- October 8: Tech Slam UK in partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation at Stamford Bridge
-
October 9: Tech Slam UK in partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Foundation at Tottenham Stadium
-
October 9: Catalyst activation at Autodesk UK office with 50 students (in Birmingham)
-
October 10: Catalyst activation at Colorintech’s Black Tech Fest
-
October 11: Catalyst activation at Chelsea for International Day of the Girl with 60 students
Through our mission-aligned partnership, we will be able to expose over 200+ young people of color to exciting technical and non-technical career pathways through hands-on and culturally relevant programming.
These events are a convergence of two worlds—sports and technology—designed to challenge preconceptions and open doors for youth of diverse (ethnic and gender) backgrounds. With collaboration from prestigious partners and a host of collaborators, both Tech Slam UK events are poised to make an even greater impact this year. Notable sponsors include Marqeta and Goldman Sachs. See highlights here from its 2023 activation.
In a world where opportunities in the technology sector abound, Tech Slam UK recognizes the potential that lies within young individuals, particularly those from communities of color. These events serve as a platform to inspire participants to explore exciting sports technology career pathways, both technical and non-technical, that are ripe with potential. Too often, young sports enthusiasts are steered away from their dreams due to unrealistic expectations, but Tech Slam UK aims to empower them to dream big and leverage their strengths to excel in sports technology-related fields.
HISTORY OF TECH SLAM UK
Tech Slam originated through a partnership between The Hidden Genius Project and TEAM, Inc. in 2017. In October 2018, The Hidden Genius Project, Oakland Natives Give Back, and TEAM, Inc. joined forces to host the inaugural Tech Slam UK event at Stamford Bridge in partnership with Chelsea FC Foundation.
The following year in 2019, the team returned to London to host another Tech Slam UK activation and then continued to expose young people in Johannesburg to host inspiring workshops at Tech Slam South Africa in partnership with LEAP Science and Match Schools.
