“Not only have I learned to navigate new coding software like Xcode, but I also
strengthened my knowledge of core coding principals and UI.”

– Keenan Burns (DET1)

With the support of the Apple Foundation, The Hidden Genius Project hosted a seven-week coding program using their Swift programming language. In this specialized program, our Youth Educators participated in a series of guided lessons to build their own rock, paper, scissors game and a boogie bots which combined various programming logic concepts including functions, instances and methods.

BOOGIE BOTS & ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS

“This has showed me how fun coding and learning new things can be. I learned how to code using a new software, Swift, and how to build rock, paper, scissors with it.”

James Hackett (DET1)

As our Detroit cohort 1 Hidden Genius Alumni, now Youth Educators, have been immersed in learning how to code with Apple’s programming language, Swift, they’ve used their mastery of concepts like functions, instances, and methods to design their own dancing Boogie Bots, create a custom rock, paper, scissors app, and more!

ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY

Early April, our Youth Educators used the knowledge they learned to teach youth attendees of our 2024 Tech Slam Baltimore event how to code with Swift. Not only did they demo their Boogie Bots, but they also taught participants how to code their own rock, paper, scissors program.

Special thanks to the Apple Foundation for your support.
