From May 1-4, 2019, our team of Hidden Genius Alumni Youth Educators attended PyCon in Cleveland, Ohio, which is the largest annual community gathering for developing the open-source Python programming language. Upon arrival, our young men hit the ground running by representing The Hidden Genius Project’s booth and sharing our mission with hundreds of Python enthusiasts.

“PyCon was a great opportunity to connect and network with folks in the tech space.” — Zebreon Wallace, OAK2 Hidden Genius Alum

In addition, our Geniuses also had the incredible opportunity to connect with the Cleveland Cavaliers NBA 2K Gamer League. Besides touring their facilities, our team learned about the eSports space and how professional NBA teams are investing their money to recruit professional gamers to play for them, similar to professional basketball players.

To close out this amazing experience, our Geniuses were also invited by PyCon to help facilitate a Young Coders workshop to 25 local students from Garrett Morgan High School. All of the participants were excited to play with technology while also practicing coding skills and discussing tech career opportunities.

“I felt like I was able to open a whole new world to students and show them that they too can be involved in tech and change the world one day no matter where they come from or what they look like.” — Nyjel Todd, OAK4 Hidden Genius Alum

Thank you to everyone at PyCon, The Python Software Foundation and Cleveland Cavaliers NBA 2K Gamer League for your partnership and support.
