Technology is everywhere today, but only a tiny fraction of students are learning how to create technology. Brothers Code is part of the larger Oakland is Beyond initiative, which is to introduce young people of color to technology in celebration of International Computer Science Education Week.
The Hidden Genius Project invites young men and women of color from middle school through college to join our 8th Annual Brothers Code event online on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from 10:00am to 1:00pm PST. This event is meant to demystify, empower, educate, and expose young people to skills and networks that can guide them to exciting opportunities and careers within the tech sector.
At this event, youth participants will:
- Explore various technology platforms to support skills development
- Learn about the vast range of exciting career opportunities and pathways within the tech sector
- Investigate the various ways they can leverage technology to strengthen their communities and reach their goals
Additionally, we will also host a concurrent program for adults. All are welcome to attend as we invite parents, guardians, educators, administrators, counselors, champions, and any other interested adults to register and learn how they might support young people to pursue technology pathways.
